Sheelagh Allen gave us a short talk on how to pronounce the Irish language when you come across it in singing. Sheelagh has been a member of Folk At The Club since October 2019, born in Ireland she spent some time in Spain before returning to England.

Beginning with the Irish alphabet, we were taken through the various pronunciations and accents with a sprinkling of songs and funny stories to illustrate them. We were all given one of Sheelagh’s CDs and the workshop ended with a question and answer session followed by a sing around which was mostly Irish songs and closing with Sheelagh singing the Irish national anthem in Gaelic. A great night – thanks Sheelagh.
